Centerpointe Research Institute offers training in meditation that incoporates advanced theories of sound and brain wave patterns to enhance the meditation experience. By using sound waves at very low frequencies masked by pleasant sounds, Centerpointe claims to help the mind achieve levels of awareness that usually take years to reach in a matter of months.
The benefits of using Centerpointe’s Holosync CDs and mp3s to enhance meditation include more rapid advancement, deeper concentration, health improvement, emotional well-being and higher levels of spiritual and physical functioning.
Centerpointe Research Institute grew from an association between two long-time practitioners of Transcendental Meditation, Bill Harris and Wes Wait. The pair were intrigued by a 1973 article by researcher Gerald Oster entitled ‘Auditory Beats in the Brain’. Oster presented research that showed how sounds can produce certain states of brain wave functioning.
Harris and Wait were also aware of research that showed how the various states achieved during meditation were associated with particular patterns of brain waves – much in the same way that Oster was describing. Intrigued, the two men began to experiment with sound mixers and recording equipment in an attempt to reproduce meditative states by using audio technology.
For four years, Harris and Wait experimented with mixing sound waves, personal affirmations and pleasant sounds. The end result was a program of 13 increasingly more complex ‘levels’ of mind alteration and positive affirmation. In 1989 the pair began marketing the Centerpointe program to the public using Autophonix technology. The sonic approach promised the results achieved through years of transcendental meditation in just a few months.
Wait left the company in 1990 to pursue other interests, but Bill Harris continued developing the method, which he now called Holosync, incorporating the results of research being conducted worldwide in his productions. That research includes the works of Nobel laureate Ilya Prigogine on the evolution of complex organizations like the brain.
Centerpointe Research Institute now offers a complete program of Holosync mp3s and CDs in increasing levels, along with annual retreats for program participants. The Centerpointe program has been used by thousands of people in over 60 different countries, and is supported by research.
The Holosync method uses a proprietary recording technique to embed sonic tones beneath pleasant music and sounds. These tones stimulate the brain to produce electrical waves that are identical to those produced when the mind reaches deep levels of relaxation and meditation. In advanced courses of study and meditation, Centerpointe Research Institute creates customized CDs that also embed personal affirmations that are recorded in the participants own voice. These affirmations help the brain to ‘rescript’ its reactions to the world around it. Participants listen to a Holosync CD for an hour a day (some more and some less, but an hour is the suggested optimal time) in a quiet, uninterrupted space.
